Double Dose Weekend for Westminster Warriors: One Victory, One Heartbreaking Loss

In a thrilling weekend of basketball action, the Westminster Warriors Basketball Club delivered a rollercoaster of emotions to their dedicated fans. The “Double Dose” event featured two intense matchups, with one victory and one heart-wrenching defeat.

Game 1: Westminster Warriors vs. London Stars

On Saturday, the Westminster Warriors faced off against the London Stars at home, and it was a showdown to remember. The Warriors secured a convincing 87-70 win, with top scorer Justin Hitchman leading the charge, amassing an impressive 29 points. Hitchman’s performance mirrored his previous week’s success, showcasing his consistency. Jon Johnson contributed 19 points, adding to the Warriors’ offensive firepower. One of the standout moments was a thunderous dunk by Jardell Kerr, who finished with 13 points. For the London Stars, White led their scoring with 21 points, closely followed by Adekunle with 17.

Game 2: Westminster Warriors vs. Cardiff Met Archers

The second game took place at Capital City Academy, and it was a wild ride. The Warriors locked horns with the Cardiff Met Archers, and the match ended in heartbreak for the home team with a score of 95-94. The game witnessed relentless back-and-forth action, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. Nathan Ashley made a clutch three-pointer that briefly put the Warriors up by 1. However, in a dramatic turn of events, a crucial foul on a 3-point attempt in the dying seconds cost the Warriors the game. Flagherty, the standout player for the Cardiff side, calmly converted two of his three free throws to secure the Archers’ victory. Lukas Volskis was the Warriors’ top scorer, delivering an outstanding 24 points, including an impressive number of three-pointers.

Coach Mo Laribi shared his insights on the weekend, stating, “This weekend has been truly insightful as we competed against two very different but competitive teams. It provided us with some lessons that, when paired with our training, will be beneficial for our next game at NASSA and the rest of the season.”

In a commanding performance on their home court, the Westminster Warriors secured a resounding victory with a final score of 98-68 against Ipswich Basketball. The game was marked by standout performances on both sides of the court.

Justin Hitchman, a seasoned 9th-year player for the Westminster Warriors, emerged as the top scorer of the game with an impressive 29 points. Hitchman displayed his scoring versatility, demonstrating his ability to put points on the board in various ways. However, what truly set the Warriors apart was their collective effort. They spread the scoring across the entire team, emphasizing teamwork and selfless play, which caused significant problems for the opposition. This collaborative approach was reflected in both scoring and assisting throughout the game.

In addition to Hitchman’s impressive showing, returners Jon J Johnson and Jardell Kerr also made significant contributions, each tallying 13 points for the Warriors. Their combined efforts added to the team’s scoring depth and further solidified the Warriors’ dominant display.

While Ipswich Basketball faced a formidable opponent, they had their bright points. Rebounding and shooting were their strengths, particularly on the offensive end, with Day excelling in grabbing offensive rebounds and contributing to second-chance opportunities.

For Ipswich Basketball, McKew stood out as their top scorer with 16 points. His performance was notable, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Warriors’ dominant showing.
